Plot Synopsis: This book was about Rose Nolan and her family who decided to come to America from Ireland and stay with there Uncle Patrick near Ellis Island. But first they make there way over on a ship, there ready to get off the boat and they get stopped and told that there little brother Joseph is not aloud here and Rose's dad and little brother go back to Ireland. So the Nolan's get to Uncle Patrick's and they realize that the wife and two kids and the Nolan family aren't going to get along. So Rose and sets out to find a job, but shes not having any luck. So she knows that she could go without school but on the other hand her little sister Maureen, needs to get more educated. Her mom ends up heading back to Ireland and Rose promises she will stay with her uncle but she disobeyed her mom and her and Maureen go find an apartment to live in and this is where Rose meets a girl named Gussie and her father owns the apartment, so Gussie talks to her dad they can live there now and Gussie also got Rose and Maureen a job at a Triangle Shirtwaist Factory where everything is fine until a historical fire starts and Rose and her sister experience a frightening experience of trying to get out of a building with people running around for help and wondering to themselves if they will still be live. But in the end there both fine but then they came to know that a very good friend they knew Gussie had died in this fire.

Author Bio
: Mary Jane Auch never thought about writing when she was a child, the only literature she knew was the plays her and an old friend use to write, then she would have the neighborhood boys come over and buy tickets to watch them perform their plays. Mary loved books and never stopped reading, then she came interested in drawing all throughout high school and went to college as an art major at Skidmore college. She got married in 1967 and within a few years had a girl. In the summer of 1984 Mary went to a childrens writing contest in Cape Cod. After that she strated sending manuscripts to publisher's and her career was off to a great start. Some other books that Mary Jane Auch wrote was I Was a Third Grade Science Grade Project, I Was a Third Grade Spy and Journey to Nowhere.

Ashes of Roses was a very good book. I love these types of stories that have immigrants from different countries, and they have to fight for the right to live in some area. So I would recomenned this book to all people because it really teaches you life skills and its very interesting.
